Blog Reviews for Visibility

By Diane Bjoring

BlogNet Awards is more than just a Best Blog Awards site, it's also a useful tool if you are looking for blogs on a particular topic or more blogs to read. The added bonus for you as a reader is having being entered into a contest, where you also have the chance of winning cash or prizes for voting/commenting on any or all the blogs that are listed.

As with any business, there are many elements that people do not see when it comes to the day to day tasks and BlogNet Awards is no different than any other business.

One of the tasks that I wanted to talk about was the blog reviews that we do for all the nominated blogs on our award site. After looking at different models for blog award sites, we decided to focus on a manual blog review as the best way to help our nominees.

While many people have heard of a blog review, it helps to have an understanding of what a blog review is, what we at BlogNet Awards look for and most important how that affects all of our nominees.

A blog review is an appraisal or evaluation of any given blog that has been nominated to our site. The purpose is show the authors of these blogs how others are seeing their sites and while we do not do an extensive evaluation, we hope that by seeing through a set of objective eyes, authors will get ideas or thoughts about making changes if need be to their sites. The other reason in doing a blog review is to help our voters/commenter(s)/readers get a real feel to what they will see when they go visit any given site.

When we look at a blog, there are certain points that we look at. While we may not note in our reviews all these pointers, this is what we look at.

1. Design - The fact is this is the first thing a reader is going to see, so we look to see if it is "easy on the eyes", how easy is it to navigate through the different sections, is it a cluttered site ( this meaning is it so full of widgets, "eye candy" and "stuff") that you lose your focus on what the site is about?

2. Personal Information - One of the best things we can tell our readers is about the author themselves, so we look for the persons name and information. People do love to know that the blogs they are reading are from real people. We also look to see if they have a privacy policy, any kind of disclaimer especially if this is any kind of "business" blog. Even such categories as Best diarist blogs we will look for this kind of information as it showing that even personal blogs have ways and means to create an extra income on their site.

3. Before looking at any content, we look to see if the focus of the blog is obvious. We do this by looking at the headlines, the sub- headlines, the theme itself, images and good old fashioned reading of different posts

4.Content. When we look at the content of a nominees blog, we look at such elements as
- Is the content readable ( grammar, spelling, speaking to the topic at hand, does it make sense)
- Does the content match the whole focus of the authors site and is there anything that stands out that one could say "this is great"
- The writing style - is it personal, can a person relate to what is being said.

After doing all this work, you now have had your blog reviewed and is showing on our site, what does this mean for you?

In a nutshell VISIBILITY! Every blogger wants their site to be noticed. By having your blog reviewed and put on our BlogNet Award site or any other award site, readers get a chance to see who you are and what your blog is all about. You now have opened the door to get more readers, more ways to create a good linking strategy and develop your unique presence on the net.

It is my sincere hope that to all the bloggers out there, that you will see how valuable a tool having a blog review done by sites such as BlogNet Awards can only help boost your online presence.

Your description of what you expect to see on a blog gave me some food for thought. And made me check my blog - which I think is OK. But maybe I'll visit your website and get a review - it's always good to get an unbiased view.

Thank you for your comment and sorry it took so long to get back to you. There are many strategies for SEO, we tend to think in a certain way, at times in more traditional "thinkings" of SEO. The fact is, whenever someone says something of value about what you are doing, then creating a link is one to be persued. I have noted even if a comment, review is not of the most positive, so to speak, one can turn it around to make it a valuable lesson to a person ,a good way to create the necessary discussion which of course will then become "viral"

I wish you all the best and have a good day,

Best Regards
